Amor Ministries

Internships

You can be involved with Amor Ministries through programs that support mission trips including the spring Project Barnabas Program, the summer Project Nexus Program, or the year long Internship.

Project Barnabas

The primary role of a Project Barnabas team member is to meet the needs of a group during their trip. This may include you picking up a hammer and helping build or it may mean simply encouraging the group participants. You will be a representative of Amor Ministries and act as a liaison between the group and Amor Ministries, but the most important quality of a Project Barnabas team member is their attitude of service.

Your training for this program emphasizes this philosophy of service. During this time you will be instructed in the basics of the building process. However, your primary role as a Barnabas is to ENCOURAGE the group, and an extensive knowledge of the Amor house is not necessary. Your week will begin with training on Saturday and meeting groups on Sunday, serving the groups Monday through Thursday, and departing on Friday. Project Barnabas runs from the first of March to the middle of April. The cost is $80 per person. That fee covers you for one or up to five weeks of service. On your application, make sure to specify when you are coming, how long you want to serve, and which location you want to serve at.

All Project Barnabas Participants are expected to:

  • Be over the age of 18
  • Develop a network of invested supporters who will be praying for your spring
  • Raise the money needed for travel, fees and personal expenses
  • Be available for at least one week during the spring season
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Come prepared to serve, learn and grow

Project Nexus

"Don't just watch ministry happen - jump in with both feet. Get immersed in Mexico for the summer through Project Nexus."

This is where you will receive a hands-on, get dirty, get involved, get-in-your-face ministry experience in a team setting. You will experience a summer in full-time ministry with all its joys, heartaches and challenges while learning from the experiences, training, and teaching of seasoned ministry staff. Each week, you will assist staff with building projects and programs, and serve the groups as well as the churches and families Amor serves in Mexico. Time off will be spent on team development, cultural experiences, and much needed rest and relaxation.

Applications are processed on a first-come first-served basis. This program tends to fill up early so get your stuff in if you want to have an amazing summer. The cost of the program is $3,000 (this does not include transportation to and from San Diego). The first day of Pre-Field Orientation is May 23, 2010 and the last day of Debriefing is August 8, 2010. You must be available to start on the date posted, no exceptions.

Throughout the summer, you will experience different cultures and values, individual growth, team development, sacrifice and service while deepening your own philosophy and commitment to world missions. The Project Nexus team is assembled to create the most productive summer experience. Diversity, differences in strengths and ability to contribute to the success of the team are valued.

All Project Nexus Participants are expected to:

  • Complete the application process: the initial application, phone interviews with the applicant and references, and a background check. Keep in mind that this process takes approximately one month-the deadline for the applications is May 1.
  • Be single adults between the ages of 18 and 25
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have and bring a current passport
  • Commit to serving the entire length of the program in Mexico. The dates are May 23- August 8, 2010
  • Uphold the ministries policies and guidelines
  • Serve the other members of the Project Nexus team, the Amor Ministries team members, the mission trip participants, and the Mexican Families
  • Understand that your summer primarily involves foreign field work, and may also include service through other aspects of the ministry
  • Intentionally pursue a deeper relationship with Christ throughout the summer

Year Long Internship

The Amor Ministries Internship is a year-long experience that creates exposure to the various aspects of missions, Amor in particular. You will be immersed in a program tailored to your own interests within the variety of existing programs available to and within Amor.

The core component and commitment to the intern is in coaching. Andy Stanley, author of The Next Generation Leader, says “Coaching enables a leader to go farther, faster.” As a year long intern, you will receive personalized training, cross-cultural and multicultural experiences and immediate feedback that will use and stretch current talents and education. At the completion of the Amor Ministries Year Long Internship, you will be able to articulate your personal mission statement, implement conflict resolution strategies, name your personal leadership strengths, as well as create a vision for your future service, whether in the professional world, the church or global service.

Volunteer

Give your time:

As the number of groups that participate with us continues to increase, the needs of the ministry continue to grow as well. We have an increasing need for volunteers to assist in various tasks at the offices in San Diego and El Paso, and at our campgrounds in Mexico. There are a variety of opportunities to get involved through volunteering.
