Project Barnabas Internship
Why Project Barnabas?
The Project Barnabas team member is modeled after Barnabas in the Bible, whose name meant Son of Encouragement. The role of a Project Barnabas team member is to represent the Ministry, walk alongside others and serve wherever and whenever needed. Most of the roles that a Project Barnabas team member fills during our busy spring season are behind the scenes, absolutely necessary, and service-oriented.. Amor Ministries and the groups we serve have many different needs during this time, and Project Barnabas team members work to meet all of them. Project Barnabas team members may spend the week: serving and encouraging a group on a worksite, preparing food at the campground for groups through Amor’s La Cocina program, setting up a campsite for an upcoming group, organizing or delivering tools for groups, or a combination of some or all of these things. Each of these roles focuses on empowering the groups as they serve the local church and community through building homes.
Your training for Project Barnabas emphasizes this philosophy of service. During your time as a Barnabas, you will be instructed in the basics of your volunteer area. However, your primary role as a Barnabas is to ENCOURAGE and EMPOWER the groups however needed (therefore, an extensive knowledge of Amor and your volunteer area is not necessary). Your basic week outline is: Saturday-Training, Sunday-Meeting groups and leading them into Mexico, Monday through Thursday-Serving the groups, and Friday-Returning home.
Project Barnabas is available in our Baja, Mexico and our San Carlos, AZ locations.
Current Needs
Work site assistance
Serve as a liaison between Amor Ministries and our groups that have come to build homes by being a resource for both. Clean tools, mix stucco, answer questions (or direct them to the right person), pick up stray nails, and through it all be an encouragement to everyone you meet.
La Cocina
Serve alongside our La Cocina Mexican staff members to provide an authentic Mexican meal experience to groups throughout their mission trip. Assist with the food purchasing, preparation, and clean up that provides the needed sustenance for a group while they are serving with Amor.
Operations
Provide hands on support through working with the operations team on camp development and our tool rental program. Serve the groups and families through providing the resources needed for a successful mission trip.
