What To Expect On A Mission Trip To San Carlos

You have decided to take part in a life-changing experience, and we want to equip you, an Amor Mission Trip participant, with the tools necessary to succeed in this mission trip as much as possible. The times before, during, and after your Amor Mission Trip will bring new challenges, growth opportunities, and eye opening moments. One thing is for sure, you will return with a new perspective on poverty and God’s love.

Each Amor Mission Trip group has a slightly different timeline but we hope that the timeline outlined below will touch on what you should expect while participating in an Amor Mission Trip in the San Carlos Apache Reservation.

Amor Ministries has opened a new Ministry location within the San Carlos Apache Reservation in Arizona. Amor recognized the great need and began work as soon as possible. We are beginning to build our Ministry Planning Board, a team of local Pastors within the Reservation to help us identify the families with the greatest amount of poverty and need. Amor’s San Carlos building project is currently in the pilot phase and house plans are being developed and revised as we build more and more houses.

While you are participating in the San Carlos Amor Mission Trip you will stay in the Amor Camp on the edge of Globe, AZ. Globe is a small town just 30 minutes west of the San Carlos Apache Reservation. The Amor Camp is rustic and complete with bucket showers and port-a-potties.

The home you will be building is currently being constructed in several building phases. The phases of building will likely include multiple groups of Amor Mission Trip participants to complete. The home is 28’x 24’ and is a two bedroom, one bedroom home with a kitchen and a living room. Your group will build this house with very little access to power tools. The building phases consist of:

Phase 1: The cement foundation of the home is poured before you arrive so that your group can immediately start framing and standing the walls, feeding the rough plumbing and electrical tubes through the wall, stucco both the interior and exterior if the walls, and place the roof on the home.

Phase 2: If you group works on this phase of the house, you will focus on the work to finish the house. You will touch up the stucco, install electrical wires (not live wires), paint the inside and the outside of the house, install the interior doors, install the closet doors, and install the cupboards in the bathroom and kitchen, install appliances, and many other projects to make the home ready for the family to move in.

When all is said and done, you will have played an integral part in providing an Apache family with a new home; thus providing families the much needed space and a safe place to live, grow and thrive.
