Family Camp - FAQ's
Is it possible to be picked up by the staff on the way to cross the border?
No. Everybody is to meet at the Baggage Claim area in Terminal 2 by the Lindbergh airplane hanging from the ceiling by noon on Saturday, June 16. No exceptions. If you are arriving earlier than Saturday, please make sure you have transportation to the airport.
Do I need a passport?
Yes. All campers need to have passports or passport cards to cross the Mexican border.
How many pieces of luggage are we allowed?
Check with your airline prior to departure to find out what they charge for checked baggage. Keep in mind while packing that your family is responsible for carrying all of your luggage in one trip through the border crossing.
May we bring small gifts for the Mexican children we are helping to build a home?
No, unfortunately, donations are not allowed across the border into Mexico. Housewarming gifts for your family are included in your trip fees, and will be purchased in Mexico prior to your arrival.
Is there an emergency number we can leave with your families at home?
Yes. Amor Ministries will have direct radio contact with the camp. The number for Amor is 619.662.1200.
If we are driving in, where do we park the car for the week we are in Mexico?
San Diego long term parking. The approximate cost is $75 for the week. Since you are meeting at the terminal this is also the most convenient place to park.
When do I need to pay for the trip?
There is a nonrefundable deposit of $100 per family due upon registration. After that, we ask for 50% of your family’s fees to be paid by March 15. Finally, everyone should be fully paid by May 1.
Can I fundraise for the trip?
Absolutely! Raising support for the trip is a wonderful way for friends and family to invest in this life changing experience for your family. Fundraising resources are available through Amor either online or by contacting us at 619.662.1200 x 135.
Is there a cancellation fee if I register for the trip and then can’t come?
Each payment for the trip becomes nonrefundable on the day that it is due.
