Making Memories for a Lifetime
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
My sister and I always thought a great name for a restaurant would be “Remember When” to tap into those mutual, warm, nostalgic memories of our customers. My family often plays the “Remember When” game, as we share around our dinner table favorite memories our family has made over the years.
I truly believe that God, by design, has intentionally given us the gift of our memories. We can see this call to “Remember When” as a gift to the Israelites when God calls them to place memorial stones as they journey towards the Promised Land. These stones served to remind them that, no matter what obstacles they would face on their way, God would be bigger than those stones so they could trust their family’s future to Him.
God also wants us to intentionally recount memorable lessons of His faithfulness in our lives as we journey along. As a result, we need to look for opportunities to set up our own family memory stones of how Jesus is faithful, even when we, like the Israelites, detour from the path Christ calls us to. These “Remember When” stones will cause each family member to grow in our trust of Christ through the good times and especially through the tough times.
As I was growing up, my family believed in “Remember When” stones, causing me to have a boat load of Godly memories from my childhood - starting with a sense of being loved by God. There are Godly memories of the fun and joy I experienced at our family picnics and of the best fishing trips at my Grandpa and Grandma’s farm.
We did not have a lot of money, but my family made my memory banks filthy rich with all the deposits of “Remember When” stones they put in me to feast on then, and now with my own family.
Another way to create great “Remember When” stones is family impact trips. At Amor’s Family Camp, being held June 18-25, 2016, your family will build a much needed home for another family as an expression of Christ’s love for them. You will have a lasting impact as you bring the message of hope to the families you will serve alongside in Mexico.
In addition to that week of home building, your family will also make memories by sharing family devotions, having fun at the evening parties, and singing and telling stories around the campfire.
We invite you and your family to have a transformational experience this summer that will manifest the justice, kindness and humility of Jesus Christ. Amor’s Family Camp truly is a week of “Remember When” stones that will last a lifetime and an investment in your family’s faith in Christ that you will never regret or forget!
Remember…A picture is worth a thousand words, but a memory is priceless.
