Our work for the summer in South Africa is just beginning. Here are some updates from our first few days. Keep following us to see Amor work in South Africa...
July 12th: The teams have arrived, building materials are at the sites, and amazing things are happening. The usual minor road bumps like needing four trips to Johannesburg to getting working internet units, but nothing that our amazing team can’t handle.
When our bus pulled up (a.k.a. the “ice cream truck”) we were delighted to discover that the drivers are the same ones we worked with last year, Abram and Paulus. It was great to renew the friendship and see familiar faces.
We have a robust team this week, 82 from the U.K. with Urban Saints, and a family of five from Tennessee. Before heading to Ebenezer farm to rest we stopped at the Lion Park and let the participants meet the adorable lion cubs.
July 13th: It's Sunday, so the focus today is interacting with the local church followed by learning about the history and culture of South Africa. We went to Soweto and visitied sites from the struggle against apartheid, including a visit to Nelson Mandela's home as well as a tour of the Hector Pieterson memorial and Freedom Square.
Tomorrow we begin building houses!
