Every spring thousands of people from all over the US, Canada, and the UK come together to demonstrate what a global community looks like through building homes alongside the families of our neighbors in Mexico.
In order for this to take place, Amor needs volunteers in three specific areas through our Project Apoyo – La Cocina, Operations, and the Amor Store.
The Spanish word Apoyo means support – both physical, like the support beams for a house, and the intangible, like giving moral and spiritual support or walking alongside anotherperson. This is a perfect description of the role you will play through Project Apoyo.
In volunteering in these areas, you will provide physical support that is much needed during the busy spring season. The work of your hands will set up a campground where hundreds of people will stay while building homes through Operations, prepare and serve food to hungry participants through La Cocina, providing them with needed sustenance for their trip, and sell goods in the Amor Store, whose proceeds go to Project Hope – providing food, blankets, school supplies, Bibles, and water filters to families in the communities.
While you serve in these areas you will work alongside Amor team members, mission trip participants, and local community members – encouraging and supporting everyone you encounter.
Your participation with Project Apoyo will result in homes being built in Mexico, program resources being distributed through Project Hope, and job creation for local people through Operations and La Cocina. AND, it will result in thousands of lives changed; for those coming on a mission trip and for those receiving a new home.
Come change lives through your service.
Serve alongside our La Cocina Mexican staff members to provide an authentic Mexican meal experience to groups throughout their mission trip. Assist with the food purchasing, preparation, and clean up that provides the needed sustenance for a group while they are serving with Amor.
Serve in our Amor Store at camp - our store selling clothing and goods at camp that benefits Project Hope. Keep the store clean and tidy, stock inventory, and assist customers to make the store an inviting and fun environment.
Operations - March 25 - 4/22**
Serve alongside our Operations Team in everything from delivering & picking up tools to replenishing the camp firewood supply. The Operations Team is responsible for all of the behind the scenes on the field.
**There will be an additional week available before the start of spring, during which you can volunteer to help set up our extra camp in Tecate. Dates of this week are provisionally set at 3/6-3/11 but are subject to change.
